Episode 39 with Dennis & Angelina Girard
There are four areas of discussion in today’s interview:
- Shrine of Mary Magdalene in the province of Quebec,
- The Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary and the graces received as a member,
- The movie coming out October 7th discussing the Canadian Shrine and history, the Rosary and confraternity, and
- Plans for an international meeting of Marians Shrines to encourage enrollment in the confraternity in 2025. It will be held at the Shrine of Mary Magdalene in Canada.
What is the Confraternity and graces received?
A Confraternity is a christian voluntary association of laity created for the purpose of promoting special works of piety or charity. Benefits of joining this confraternity include
- Special protection of our Lady
- Share in the prayers of thousands of members, even after death
- Share in the prayers and works of the Dominican Order
- Intercession of the heavenly court and
- Various plenary and partial indulgences.
Through the prayers of the Confraternity victory was declared in the Battle of Lepanto on October 7, 1571. This is the feast day of Our Lady of the Rosary, and this October 7th marks the 450th anniversary of the feast.
What is the Rosary and What did Pope Leo XIII write in his encyclical Commending Devotion to the Rosary?
The Rosary is a reflection on the life of Jesus and Mary. Pope Leo felt there were three major societal issues of the day back then, and they are still with us today - a dislike of poverty and the simple life, a repugnance to suffering, and the neglect of the future life after death. The Joyful mysteries reflect on the simple life of Jesus; he was born in a manger. The Sorrowful mysteries remind us of his love and suffering, and how we too may be called to carry our cross. The Glorious mysteries help us keep a focus on the magnificence of heaven.
