Episode 88 with Br. Michael Perez, SSS
Brother Michael Perez, SSS, speaks about St. Peter Julian Eymard and his love of the Eucharist. Initially he was a an Oblate, then Marist, and eventually founded the order.
Early Childhood Experience
When St. Peter Julian Eymard was 5 years old, his sister found him in church embracing the tabernacle. His sister asked him what he was doing, and he said, “Listening to Jesus.” It seemed at an early age that he had a love for Jesus in the Eucharist.
Everything Radiates from the Eucharist
The focus on the Eucharist was what led Br. Michael to the order. He stated that St. Peter believed that everything radiated from the Eucharist; that should be the focus of our spiritual life, and then we let the love of Jesus radiate to us and through us and out to others.
Prolific and Profound
St. Peter Julian Eymard was prolific. We have six volumes of writings! One of Dr. Thatcher’s favorite quotes from St. Peter is, “May Thy Eucharistic Kingdom Come!” Br. Michael knows that quote well, and mentioned how they had to know and memorize that quote during his formation years.
A Saint for the Eucharistic Revival
During this time of Eucharistic revival in the Church, let us study the writings of St. Peter Julian Eymard and come to know Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.
